DE BLOG 1

DE BLOG 1

I have never really thought of myself as an “entrepreneurial” person. Although my grandfather and my father are entrepreneurs, preferring to work for themselves rather than for anyone else, I have always been very content at the idea of being part of a larger organization, and making my contributions there.

However, AIM, and in particular the subject DE, is making me think. Who is an entrepreneur really? Isn’t an entrepreneur just someone with a dream, a vision, with the only difference between him and a non-entrepreneur being the fact that he actually takes action towards achieving his dream? Following from that- do we not all have dreams, or conversely, does not being an entrepreneur make you someone with no dreams?

I believe that all of us, in life, have a number of dreams, particularly when we are young and the future seems to be an expanse of endless possibilities and opportunities. As we grow older, we get set in out ways, many times taking the easy path, without really introspecting about what we really want to do in life. It’s not practical, we tell ourselves, or, it’s too risky.

And so we follow our dreams in a different way, the smaller dreams, forgetting the grand visions of our youth.

My challenge for myself over the course of this blog and this subject is to delve within and rediscover that “grand vision”.

Our professor has, I believe, given us a roadmap to do just that. What do we really like to do, we need to ask ourselves, with others or by ourselves, for or through others or for ourselves.

Having done this, perhaps we can find the pieces of the jigsaw that make up our dreams.

Yes everyone has dreams and yes those that do not choose the entrepreneurial path to achieving those dreams, pursue them with the same amount of passion and determination.

They too dream new dreams as they get into new things.

What's the difference then? Nevermind what the difference is for others. What matters is what the difference is for you. That, I hope we can help you discover.

Dude, is there any reason why you stopped blogging? Or do you have a new blog now?

I don't even know if you'll be getting this message as obviously you've written these thoughts over 3 years ago.

Don't need to post this comment but just felt like connecting with you.

By AIM, I'm assuming you went to Asian Institute of Management, Manila?

What caught my eye in your words is that you've pumped back "life" and philosophy into modern capitalist concepts that (today) usually tend to force us to see each other without any soul.

Rather than focusing on the "profit" or "gain" aspect of entrepreneurship, you've addressed some key factors that drive one into it...one of the most important of them being dreams :)

I like this approach.

It challenges one to think and reconsider the path we're on and where we're heading. Its even more thrilling when one projects two versions of themselves into the future: 1) the practical aka safe and risk free route or the "this is me, this is how I'm going to be" living my DREAM route. The best part is that almost everyone has the ability to visualize clear projections of both versions of themselves but yet there's most of us who stick to Plan A :)

The biggest most hindering thought is ofcourse: how long am I going to struggle to get there (considering one is intuitive and also knows what the possible obstacles are). If everyone knew the answer to this question, there would be no greatness ;)

I guess that really separates the men from the boys, the women from the girls and most of all, the "individuals" from the crowd.

Its evident that you're a thinker, otherwise you wouldn't be able to put things the way you do.

Kudos to you. And whether you take the plunge or not, leave that flame on and keep pouring your thoughts :)

Regards
Karthik

P.S. kc_muzik@yahoo.com, if you'd like to dream storm ;)
